1. I was recently in a pretty bad accident in a bathroom, and THANK GOD I was able to have health insurance through my mom (she’s a teacher) until I’m… 26. I don’t know how I would have managed otherwise… Just my two cents.

Yep, it’s a seriously good thing! Private insurance really does make things so much easier and that is coming from someone who lives in Australia where all citizens and residents have access to automatic “public insurance” and universal healthcare which is extended to like a million other countries (okay I lie, but a serious number of other countries who have similar systems and have “reciprocal” support agreements) who visit.

I personally haven’t had to use my private insurance for much other than dental and optical as even at my sickest my tests and hospital admittance was all covered under public access (admittedly helped along by doctors who made sure to not send me for certain tests more often that I would need so I didn’t exceed the number of B12 tests I’m allowed in a year before I have to pay out of pocket).

I’m glad that so many people have access to basic healthcare in my country… I’m just even more glad that I have access to the extra bits and pieces and to have them subsidised as well! I’m glad my dad has always had my sister and I on his family plan even after he got out of the military.
